Self-driving cars just got a whole lot more interesting…
Chinese developers have unveiled a car that can be controlled, get this, with your mind.
How does that work? New advancements in human telepathy?
It’s actually much simpler than that.
The equipment worn by the drive can read signals that can direct the car in any direction, lock and unlock, and stop… all without using your hands or feet.
You see, there are sensors that pick up EEG signals from the driver’s brain, and the computer program picks which signals are meant to be used, and enables the car to be driven.
Now, the initial thinking here is that this technology would allow people with disabilities to drive cars easier.
It’s a great concept, but as of now the prototype can only drive forward.
Unfortunately, there are no plans to mass-produce this car — not yet, at least.
In other words, it’s going to take quite a bit of testing and research to get it right, which is not to mention the fact that drivers might be hesitant to operate a vehicle like this (for obvious reasons).
People may fear that the distraction while wearing sensors that send thought signals would result in a car accident. Granted, this is a fair concern considering the nature of the technology. Developers aren’t too worried, however, since concentration is only needed while changing how the vehicle moves, as in changing lanes or making turns.
